iOS VPN
Overview
A Virtual Private Network (VPN) uses advanced encryption and tunneling to establish secure, private network connections over "third-party" networks. Using the Cisco VPN Client will allow the University of Michigan community to access the University network via the Internet over a secure, encrypted connection from their machines.
Before you start
Using a passcode with data protection on your device is strongly recommended.
Be sure to use the Safari browser on your iOS device to complete the VPN setup.
Attempting VPN connection while your device is connected to MWireless may not work correctly. Once you have completed setting up VPN on your device, it is highly recommended you test the VPN connection with wireless networks other than MWireless (e.g. your carrier's 4G, home/public Wi-Fi).
Download and install VPN Client
- From Safari, visit ITS Networking & Telecommunications VPN Downloads (or bit.ly/umichVPN).
- Tap Download the Cisco VPN client and U-M VPN profiles for the iPhone.
- Tap Install.
- Tap Install Now.
- Enter your University of Michigan uniqname. Tap Next.
- Enter your password. Tap Next.
- Tap Done.
Turn VPN on
- Tap Settings from the home screen.
- Tap on the VPN toggle switch to On.
Turn VPN off
- Tap Settings from the home screen.
- Tap on the VPN toggle switch to Off.
