Academic Requirements and Degree Audit Report (PDF)

Important Information

  • Field descriptions for the online Academic Requirements report, the Degree Audit Report (PDF), and the Degree Audit Checklist Report (PDF), and the differences between the three reports are detailed below.
Note: Only examples of the Degree Audit Report (PDF) display in this document. The report is not shown in full; only specific fields from a segment of a complete report are shown as examples.
  • The online Academic Requirements report and the Degree Audit reports (PDF) can be run by:
    • Staff - from the M-Pathways Academic Advisement pages or the Student Services Center (NavBar > Navigator > Advisor Center > Advisee Student Center)
    • Students - from the Student Center > Academic Requirements (other academic drop-down list)
    • Advisors - from Advisor Center > My Advisees > Advisee Student Center > Academic Requirements (other academic drop-down list) or Advisory Center > Student Details of selected student
  • In-progress coursework is counted towards satisfying a requirement and is included as "used" in the "required/used/needed" calculations. These are courses for which a student has registered but not yet been graded.
  • There are three requirement completion statuses:
    • Complete - All required coursework or non-coursework-related requirements are completed.
    • In Progress - The only remaining coursework to satisfy the requirement is currently in progress.
    • Not Complete - Coursework or non-coursework-related requirements are still needed.
  • Requirements have the following hierarchy:
    • Requirement Groups (RG) - Contains one or more Requirements (RQ).
    • Requirements (RQ) - Contains one or more Requirement Lines.
    • Requirement Lines - Specific courses that satisfy a Requirement (RQ) (either derived or specifically included as a part of a Course List).
  • Students may request and advisors may grant exceptions to the degree audit requirements. There are four types of exceptions:
    • Course Directive - Allows a course that is not normally accepted into a Requirement or Line to satisfy one or both.
    • Requirement Waiver - Used to bypass a specific academic requirement.
    • Requirement Change - Used to modify the amount of units or courses needed to complete a Requirement or Line.
    • Requirement Override - Used to replace a specific academic requirement with one that would not normally apply to the student.
  • There are differences between the online Academic Requirements report and the Degree Audit reports (PDF). They are:
    • Only the Degree Audit reports (PDF) include: Program, Requirement Term, and Degree Checkout Status.
    • The Degree Audit Report (PDF) (Detail Report PDF) includes Course History fields and a Course Type Legend for all students. The Degree Audit Checklist Report (PDF) (Checklist Report PDF) includes these two features for all students except Undergraduate Engineering.
    • Repeat codes display only on the Degree Audit Report (PDF) in the Course History.
    • The Requirement Override exception displays a Requirement Override statement on the Degree Audit reports (PDF) to indicate a manual change has been entered. The online Academic Requirements report only displays the new requirement.

L Status Line Required - number of courses, or units, needed.
Used - number of completed or in-progress courses or units.
